This video of the Copland startup sequence was made by setting the monitors control panel to 640x480, and then collecting video from the Power Macintosh 8100/80av s-video output.  The s-video signal was captured by a Dazzle analog video to USB device, and recorded in iMovie on a Macbook.  The image was prepared in the web using the Quicktime player.  Of course s-video is less than perfect for this, and the loss of resolution is particularly hard on the text in the console panes.  You can still read it though.  The black stripe to the left of the image is always there on the s-video output of this Power Macintosh.  And the noise in the gray startup screen appeared after downsampling the image for the web.
